Claudia’s Expertise

Claudia Sahm joined New Century Advisors in April 2024 as Chief Economist, focusing on macroeconomic and financial market trends. She is a highly regarded expert on the macroeconomy, forecasting, and monetary and fiscal policy with many years of experience advising key decision-makers at the Federal Reserve, White House, and Congress.

Claudia developed the Sahm Rule, a closely followed recession indicator. In addition to appearing on major news outlets, Claudia is a frequent contributor to Bloomberg Opinion. She has also written opinion pieces for Barron’s, Financial Times, The Economist, The Washington Post, and The New York Times. Her decades of professional experience include serving as Founder of Sahm Consulting, Section Chief at the Federal Reserve Board, and Senior Economist at the Council of Economic Advisers at the White House after starting her career at the Brookings Institution as a Research Assistant. She serves on the Statistics Committee at the National Association for Business Economics (NABE) and is a member of the Committee on Research in Income and Wealth at the National Bureau of Economic Research.

The Fulbright Scholarship recipient graduated from Denison University, completed her scholarship studies at Technische Universität Dresden, and earned her PhD in Economics from the University of Michigan.
